Pelican Bay artists pitch in for Guitars of Hope

Ten incarcerated artists at Pelican Bay State Prison hand-painted guitars to raise money for the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Del Norte.

Guitars of Hope, established in 2022, is a fund-raising partnership between Bicoastal Media Radio and Pelican Bay State Prison, both in Crescent City.

This year, the prison’s Mural Art Team artists designed and painted six Guitars of Hope to be auctioned off to support CASA of Del Norte. The guitars’ themes are all different featuring regional landmarks or the military.

Guitars and this annual fundraiser are more than just a project for the devoted Mural Crew.

The artists donate many hours of their time and use their own personal art supplies to complete the guitars.

Participants said the project allows them to give back to the community, giving them a sense of purpose.
