Art will abound at the Art Walk from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 6, where merchants and galleries invite visitors to take a springtime stroll through historic downtown Weaverville enjoying art of all styles, opportunities to meet the artists being featured this month at local galleries, activities for art lovers of all ages, music and art vendors.

Participating galleries and businesses, from south to north, include:

The May show at the Highland Art Center (691 Main St.) which features the work of artists Karla Kaizoji Austin and Vicki Barry. The Highland Art Center’s May exhibit provides a level of creative depth, unique and thoughtful, through the complexity of mixed-media and alcohol ink. You won’t want to miss out on this month’s show!

Influenced by the beauty found in our planet’s natural resources, Karla Kaizoji Austin’s work encompasses environmental and atmospheric landscapes that capture the feelings and essence of her subject matter. She has a BFA major in painting from the San Francisco Art Institute, studied airbrush under Tom Akawie, got her bachelor’s degree at the University of California Berkeley, and her master’s at Humboldt State University.

Vicki Barry’s work has been described as happy, bright, vibrant and cheerful. She is a member of the Redwood Art Association, the Representational Art League, the Humboldt Artist Gallery in the Morris Graves Museum of Art, and the Humboldt Arts Council. Her work was featured in a bestselling book called “Pigments of Your Imagination – An Introduction to Alcohol Ink” by Cathy Taylor.

EarthDance (140 S. Miner St.) is happy to introduce Beth Gin for their May show. Gin has never shown in Trinity County and all are invited to come and see her varied, fun, beautiful paintings. Gin is an artist from McKinleyville, Calif. She has been painting for about 20 years – starting with watercolor and then trying every other medium. Her preference for subject matter is animals, but she will paint anything that suits her on any given day. She has been sketching almost daily for a couple of years and finds that it makes her day complete. Art has introduced her to incredible people and opened her eyes to the wonders of this world. Join Pam, Elizabeth, and friends to greet Gin and welcome her to our community.

EarthDance will be festive with outdoor vendors, live music, delicious nibbles and beverages, and as always, lively conversation. Stroll off Main to South Miner Street, one short block up Oregon, and join in the festivities.

Daniel Gidley of Positees by Dani G will also be in attendance at EarthDance Gallery with his custom creations; T-shirts, hats, shoes and more. Gidley will be demonstrating his “dunk art” and inviting visitors to share in the experience. Come by and play with color.

Gold Rush Jewelers (535 Main St.) will be showcasing Studio G’s ceramics class. John Garrett, instructor, will be demonstrating wheel throwing with Keiki Yamaski demonstrating hand building. The class is winding down and students will be showing a variety of pieces they have created in the past few months.

The Trinity County Visitor Center (509 Main St.) will be featuring Abigail Mossman, a young artist who has already received recognition for her art in several young artist art shows in Shasta County. Last year while searching for a gift for her high school counselor she discovered her counselor’s love for ballet, specifically Swan Lake. Determined to create something special, she experimented with digital art. The art displayed at the Trinity County Visitor Center is her interpretation of “digital color block where nothing is blended; it’s all individual variations of shades and colors layered next to each other to create the illusion of shading.”

Olson Stoneware (516 Main St.) will be featuring new designs in wheel-thrown pottery by Greg Olson including personalized stoneware pottery, jewelry, cottage and lodge décor, children’s toys and fine gifts.

Main Street Gallery (490 Main St.) will feature “All Things Humboldt” by the Representational Art League whose participating members include Vicki Barry, Julia Bednar, Erica Brooks, Andrew Daniel, Jan Hollander, Steve Lemke, Jennifer Liu, Elsie Mendes, Michelle Murphy-Ferguson, Lynn Niekrasz, Nancy Rickard, Paul Rickard, Terrie Ridenhour, Susan Strope and Dolores Terry.

“All Things Humboldt” is “drawn together in friendship and a common search of beauty. The Representational Art League perseveres through the fog, wind and in the studio to render both the mundane and magnificent of the life and times in Humboldt County. For more than 40 years, the group has focused on visual representational art with shows around the Northern California region. Our motto is we learn as we go and from each other; we support the individual as well as the group effort. This group of painters create in all mediums with each member developing his or her unique style of expression.”

Hike Up North to Up North Confectionary (480 Main St.) and enjoy the culinary art of an ice cream sundae or gourmet grilled cheese. Up North Mercantile also offers goods made in the USA with many locally made options. Open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

The Trinity County Resource Conservation District and the Trinity River Restoration Program invite everyone to come and paint decorative rocks on the patio next to Up North Confectionary at 480 Main St. This event will be held during the First Saturday Art Walk from 5 to 8 p.m. Empty rock canvases and paint pens will be provided. Join in for a moment, or the evening, to decorate rocks while enjoying sweet treats from Up North Confectionary.

These decorated rocks will be utilized at this year’s invasive weed pull event on May 16 at the Bucktail River Access in Lewiston. Community members are invited to adopt a plot to remove invasive Starthistle throughout the year at their own pace. Native plant seeds will be provided at the autumn native planting event. They aim to help re-establish the native habitat critical for a healthy ecosystem. For more information, contact Duncan McIntosh, [email protected], 530-623-6004, ext. 222.
