Acclaimed Bristolian street artist Inkie has spent six days in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he and a group of renowned DJs, producers and prolific artists collaborated with young people on an arts charity project.

The visit focused on using music and art to inspire renewed engagement with education, as part of a charity campaign led by British charity Last Night A DJ Saved My Life (LNADJ).

Working to deliver the LNADJ ‘Get Equipped’ and ‘Street to Street’ projects, Inkie joined producer Steve Mac, DJs Amber D and Scott Gray aka Melonbomb, and fellow graffiti artist SEN-1 in Freetown, following a successful visit to the city in November 2022/last year.

The group flew to Sierra Leone on April 11 and spent their time working with vulnerable young adults who have been affected by conflicts at the WAYout Arts project, which offers training, shelter, and aims to drive social change through art and music.

Inkie is a graffiti artist, graphic designer and illustrator from Bristol

Intensive and energetic workshops were used to share knowledge and provide the foundations of learning for budding young artists with the main focus centred around painting the WAYout studio building, with the group completing five main walls of graffiti art.

Inkie’s work is characterised by drawing inspiration from Art Nouveau and urban grit, combining graffiti and figurative imagery.

Posting on Instagram, Inkie wrote: “Words can’t describe the love I’m feeling after spending a week in Freetown teaching art to these beautiful people”.
