POLICE: 47-year-old man arrested for dozens of graffiti tags in South Mississippi

GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) – On Tuesday, Gulfport Police arrested 47-year-old Jason Fred Cospelich after launching an investigation into a string of graffiti vandalism on the Coast.

Officers with Gulfport’s Anti-Crime Unit noticed an increase in graffiti featuring the tags “LAZ,” “AOM,” “JAX,” and “228.”

Investigators counted more than 70 of the tags in Gulfport alone, and dozens of others have been spotted in Biloxi and along I-10.

The investigation began in April.

On Tuesday, police said they spotted Cospelich vandalizing a rail car near 33rd Street and 26th Avenue.

Detectives arrested Cospelich and charged him with malicious mischief.

Gulfport Police are asking anyone whose property was vandalized with the listed tags to call the department at 228-868-5959 or call Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477.
