O’Neil Langan Architects is seeking a senior project manager (architect) with significant retail architecture experience to work with us on exciting new retail projects. OLA is home to a talented, close-knit team that’s passionate about producing excellent retail design, and we’re seeking motivated and creative project managers who are excited to grow in this fast-paced field.

As a senior project manager (SPM), you will be deeply involved in project development from schematic design to construction, with significant team leadership responsibility. Working closely with our Associates and Principals on each new project, you will receive valuable mentorship from veteran executives as you help lead your team.

To be an ideal fit for this role, you will come in with a substantial background in retail architecture or experience working with tenant fit-out projects (retail, office, hospitality), permit sets, building permits, and the requirements of commercial landlords. You should have a thorough understanding of all phases of both design and construction, as well as proven experience in independent management of projects. This position is currently a hybrid home/office role. You will be required to meet project output standards from home part of the time using a combination of personal and remote PC hardware. Our ideal candidates will be located in New York City or the immediate region.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • BArch, MArch degree
  • 5-8 years of experience working in an architecture or design firm required
  • Significant experience with tenant fit-out projects, permit sets, and building permits, and an ability to anticipate commercial landlords’ requirements
  • 4 years of in-depth project management experience
  • Excellent drafting skills (preferably in AutoCAD, but Revit is also a big plus)
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • 3D Studio Max & Vray, or Rhino & Vray proficiency a plus (we like to keep rendering projects on these platforms)
  • Alternative 3D application experience, please explain in your cover letter
  • Must have strong, clear communication and presentation rendering skills
  • Must be comfortable leading a small team of designers and junior project managers
  • Ability to handle fast-paced projects and deadlines

Responsibilities:

  • Individual direction of a project team; reports to a client under the guidance of a Principal Partner. Oversees project managers and assistant project managers working directly under them on a project.
  • Coordinates all engineering consultants, client representatives, general contractors, and vendors with the guidance of a Principal Partner or Associate.
  • Coordinates internal and external teams, related scope and fees, and schedules.
  • Responsible for multiple projects and clients, maintaining a proven track record of success. Projects are profitable and run smoothly with limited errors and omissions, research and development scope is effective, due diligence and code analysis is accurate.
  • Responsible for full coordination and drawing review of construction documents.
  • Individual may be asked to attend weekly Senior Management Team meetings on an as-need basis.
  • Required to assist in performance evaluations and assessing junior staff members’ capabilities.
  • Travel for work required on a regular basis.
