New Orleans’ Presbytère museum in Jackson Square covered in Pro-Palestinian graffiti

The historic Presbytère museum on Jackson Square was spray painted with Pro-Palestinian graffiti early Friday morning, according to Lieutenant Gov. Billy Nungesser.

According to a news release, surveillance video showed a person writing phrases such as “Free Gaza” and ‘Where is your humanity?” in red spray paint on the columns of the landmark building between 2:00 and 2:15 a.m.

The graffiti has since been removed, and Nungesser said that he is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who has information that could lead to an arrest and conviction of the person responsible.

“We have worked hard over the last few years to restore The Presbytère,” Nungesser said in the news release. “It’s a shame that some coward felt the need to deface this historic building in the middle of the night.”

The act of vandalism comes as demonstrations have sprung up around the U.S. in recent weeks, largely on college campuses, to protest Israel’s military response in Gaza to the Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas.
