New Fluxus: A Digital Art Revolution in Naples

From Friday, May 10, to Sunday, May 12, the “Digital Woolen Mill,” a space within the former Bourbon woolen mill of Porta Capuana in Naples, will host “New Fluxus,” an international event on new languages of contemporary art, born in collaboration with the artist collective Nftcc (Nft Community Conference). The event will involve more than 100 young artists who, through the creation of interactive experiences made possible by new technologies, will engage in discussions on political, social, and digital revolution themes in the art world.

This is a three-day event of performative art, AI Art, and Cryptoart featuring audio-visual performances, talks, and workshops where physical and digital works will coexist in spaces equipped with a stage, video projections, installations, and cathode cubes. It will be a unique immersive experience, where the audience will be actively involved in the creation and interpretation of digital art.

New Fluxus was conceived by the artistic director of the Digital Woolen Mill, Simona Zamparelli, thanks to a virtuous partnership with the visionary artists and trend creators collective Nftcc, founded by the artist Luca Martinelli (alias Vandalo Ruins), and represents the first artistic event of the space.

This will also be an opportunity to launch an ambitious urban regeneration project to create an Open Innovation & Cultural Hub, which will be officially presented by the founding partners of the Digital Woolen Mill, Davide Bussetti and Giordano Iovine, to institutions (Laura Lieto, Deputy Mayor of the Municipality of Naples, and Valeria Fascione, Councilor for Research, Innovation, and Startups of the Campania Region will attend) and to startups, innovators, potential investors, and experts from the academic and digital world, on Saturday, May 11 at 11.00 AM during the talk “Looking towards the Future: Innovation for the Territory” at Lanificio 25.

The challenging project aims, through the restructuring and redevelopment of a multifunctional space of over 900 square meters located inside the former Bourbon woolen mill (where other entities promoting social and cultural initiatives are already present), to create in Porta Capuana, in the heart of Naples’ historic center, a cultural hub and new technologies hub available to the city and a point of reference for the territory.

The event, dedicated to digital art and new technologies, will conclude on Sunday, May 12 at 7:00 PM with a live performance at Made in Cloister, where the artist from the collective Ivona Tau (https://ivonatau.com/bio) will interact through artificial intelligence with the physical works of the currently ongoing Interaction exhibition at the Cloister.

“We hope for a large public and curious attendance at this first inaugural event of the future cultural program of the Digital Woolen Mill that will combine art and new technologies,” said an enthusiastic Simona Zamparelli, artistic director of the Digital Woolen Mill and curator of the event. “During the exhibition days, there will be meetings and talks with artists, gallery owners, entrepreneurs, and art historians, we will attend the ‘keynote speech’ that combines voice sound with visual effects and will challenge conventional boundaries where digital is not the ultimate goal, but the human being and his emotional intelligence.”

Davide Bussetti, CEO and Co-Founder along with Giordano Iovine of the Digital Woolen Mill: “As an engineer in the Tlc sector and entrepreneur for over twenty years, I have always dealt with innovation and together with my partner have gained extensive experience as a Google Cloud partner, creating in 2013 with my company a solid partnership in Italy, which was followed by others to support companies and institutions in the transition to the digital world.

The project is based on the ‘give back’ model according to which those who have gained entrepreneurial experiences have a moral duty to transfer their background to their community. We have therefore invested in Porta Capuana, with a space in the former Bourbon woolen mill and strongly believe in creating here a hub that combines innovation and culture, a factory of ideas capable of involving the city and the entire territory in a virtuous process of urban regeneration that has at its center the valorization of our young talents.”
