Martyn Lawrence Bullard’s chrome Christmas tree signals the rise of a ‘bold’ holiday decorating trend according to experts

This year, Christmas trees are getting a makeover. Over the past few years, the popularity of non-traditional trees has risen dramatically. Martyn Lawrence Bullard, the celebrity interior designer responsible for the decor in the homes of icons including Kylie Jenner, Winnie Harlow, and Cher, is ringing in the next trend in original holiday decor with his chrome tinsel Christmas tree. The silvery wonder is gorgeous, cloaked in silver and black ornaments for a stylish, minimal look.

In our discussion of Christmas decor ideas, experts loved the look of a chrome tinsel Christmas tree. ‘I find their modern and sleek appearance quite appealing,’ said Bree Steele, interior designer at RJ Living. She continued, ‘They bring a unique twist to traditional Christmas decor, blending well with contemporary or minimalist themes where traditional green trees might feel out of place.’

‘I love the unique sparkle of a tinsel tree,’ says Jennifer Ebert, digital editor at Homes & Gardens. ‘It looks so bold and instantly festive. To me, this kind of tree is the perfect blend between traditional and modern Christmas decor. It’s the retro look of tinsel combined with a classic Christmas tree.’

If you have a modern home, interior designers say this type of tree can work better than a traditional Christmas tree. Bree states: ‘In my view, these trees fit best in modern and urban spaces, particularly where the decor leans towards a more futuristic or avant-garde style. They complement homes with a monochromatic color scheme or where metallic elements are a key part of the design aesthetic.’

Furthermore, interior designers say that this look is set to be a huge Christmas decor trend this year. Bree says, ‘I do see the popularity of silver chrome trees growing. With the current shift towards more unconventional and bold holiday decorations, we’ll likely be seeing more of this style this holiday season. People seem to be embracing new ways to celebrate, and these trees fit right into that narrative.’

A silver Christmas tree may sound a tad retro, but rebrand it as ‘chrome’ and decorate it far more tastefully than the examples you may have seen in decades past and it can be a really chic, modern approach to Christmas decor. Take note from Martyn’s tree and just keep it simple with white lights and a monochrome scheme.
