The elevator doors of a condo building in downtown Toronto were defaced with the words “F— JEWS” and a Star of David.

Residents of the Bisha Residences were notified about “a deplorable act of vandalism” earlier this week.

In a LinkedIn post by Rebecca Loeb, a Jewish resident of the condo building, the notice by the property management company “failed to identify the group the hatred was directed towards or provide any details of the ‘symbol of hate’. It failed to condemn antisemitism.”

I have no idea what the Jewish residents of my condo building, including me, could have done as a collective or as individuals to warrant this? And on a related note, I am done with the farce of the ‘peaceful protest’ – it’s all just Jew hate,” she wrote in the post, adding that she only found out what the symbol was by looking at an image on a security guard’s computer.

Please stop being afraid of publicly standing with the Jews. Please stop being afraid of openly condemning ANTISEMITISM. We should not have to worry about our homes being attacked,” she added.

The Toronto Police Service has been notified of the incident and the matter has been transferred to the hate crimes unit, assistant property manager informed Loeb in an email.

In a follow up to Loeb, management at the condo acknowledged the “unfortunate incident of Antisemitism.”

“The incident has been reported to the Toronto Police Service by the management office and the case has now been transferred to the hate crimes unit,” the email adds.

Earlier this month, Toronto police chief Myron Demkiw said the majority (56 per cent) of hate crimes in the city in 2024 have been antisemitic in nature.
