In Memoriam: Tony Leong

Anthony “Tony” Frank Leong, M.Arch. and adjust associate professor, passed away suddenly on April 9, 2024, at the age of 55 after a battle with cancer.

Leong was born and raised in Calgary and graduated from John G. Diefenbaker High School in 1987 before pursuing his passion for architecture and obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies (1991) and a Masters of Environmental Design in Architecture in 1999.

Leong was well respected in the architecture community as an adjunct associate professor at the University of Calgary and made significant contributions to the landscape of Calgary and Edmonton throughout his career.

Most notably, Leong was the lead designer and project manager for Poppy Plaza along the Bow River in Calgary as well as the Children’s Precinct at the Edmonton Valley Zoo.

A Funeral Service to honour Leong’s life will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Foster’s Garden Chapel 3220 – 4th Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery). Interment will follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
