PETALUMA, CA — The Petaluma Police Department is investigating a threat found written in graffiti Wednesday at Kenilworth Junior High School.

School staff notified police about the graffiti in a stall in a girl’s bathroom which referenced a school shooting that would happen Thursday, Petaluma police Lt. Matthew Parnow said.

“The Petaluma Police Department is currently investigating the incident and other than the writing, there are no known credible threats to the school or staff,” Parnow said.

“We did have a police presence today and our hopeful to have more of a police presence for the rest of the week,” Parnow told Patch.

Police also responded to the campus about two weeks ago, on April 3, when two Kenilworth students were arrested in connection with setting off an explosive device inside a boy’s bathroom at the school on Riesling Drive. The incident caused students to panic and triggered a heavy police response.

Later that week, threats surfaced on social media about copycat school shootings Friday, April 5, at Kenilworth Junior High School, Petaluma Junior High School, Casa Grande High School and Petaluma High School. All schools were in session that day and there were increased police patrols to ensure a safe school day, Petaluma City Schools Superintendent Matthew Harris said.

Police asked anyone with information related to the graffiti threat to call the Petaluma Police Department at 707-778-4372.
