GFW board considers architects, construction contracts

GIBBON — The Gibbon Fairfax Winthrop (GFW) school board will consider approval of architectural and construction contracts beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 15 in the Gibbon Elementary School Early Childhood Room.

Action items include approval of contracts with Wold Architects & Engineers of St. Paul and Kraus Anderson Construction of Minneapolis regarding a new school approved by school district voters.

The board agenda includes closed sessions to discuss legal action, labor negotiations strategy and for purchasing or selling property.

The school board learned at a May 2 meeting that the school district land committee of Jason Haas of Gibbon and Dan Merkel of Fairfax was researching new school land options. Gibbon City Administrator Dana Lietzau said soil testing is being done on several properties in or near Gibbon.

Facility Manager Brian Weir reported he is working with Daiken on repairing high school heat exchangers on boilers 3 and 4 and butterfly valves this summer. Weir reported working with GAG Sheet Metal to repair elementary school roof leaks and Overhead Door of Mankato to repair a Winthrop bus garage large door.

Donations to be approved include $5,000 from GFW Athletic Boosters for middle and high school scoreboards, $800 from the Olivia Hospital & Clinic Foundation and $70 from Winthrop Post Office staff for Angel Fund student lunch accounts. Thunderbird Community Arts donations include $250 from David and Janet Rieke, $100 from Rob Edwards and Dave Munsel and $50 from Chuck and Joyce Firle.
