Born and raised in Puerto Vallarta, Moray is the son of Bernardo and Teresa Applegate, the visionary couple who in 1967 founded CAPSA, the first company to build Luxury Homes in the south shore of Banderas Bay.
Back when Puerto Vallarta was only known to a selected few, Bernardo Applegate almost single-handedly built the Santa Barbara Road, the only existing street in Conchas Chinas back in the day, which until this day is synonymous with the timeless Mexican charm of Puerto Vallarta.
Moray’s dear mother Teresa, since 1967, managed the houses that Bernardo built and following their footsteps, their son started his own brokerage company in the mid 80’s.
Today, Applegate Realtors, led by Moray Applegate, is one of the top brokerage firms that specialize in Luxury Real Estate. With over thirty years of experience, Moray is one of the longest-tenured brokers in Vallarta.
Here, he gives some fast facts to Haute Residence about his real estate journey and what he loves about Puerto Vallarta.
Why did you choose Real Estate?
I chose Real Estate because it’s in my blood. I was born to do it and I love to do it. My Mother and Father were two legitimate founders of Puerto Vallarta and following on their footsteps I naturally eased into it.
What was your journey to where you are today?
It was an interesting journey for me. I started from the Bottom. My father was a developer, not a marketer or a Broker, but I liked Brokerage so I started Young, probably 23 years old and it was not easy because most Brokers in the U.S. were twice my age. It took me four to five years to get going but the trip has been wonderful. All you need to do is to be persistent and always do the right thing.
What makes your market unique?
Our market is a High-End market, a very selected one; mostly comprised of the non-nationals who fell in love with Puerto Vallarta, its mountains, the people, the weather, and its traditions. We proudly cater also to Mexicans but a big percentage of our market is from the United States.
