BRIDGEPORT — A local man who robbed two Connecticut businesses within a week of each other in August 2019 was sentenced to nearly a decade in prison Monday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.
On Aug. 5, 2019, Latrell S. Moore, 33, stole approximately $400 from the Dunkin’ Donuts on Lordship Boulevard in Stratford during an armed robbery, according to the U.S. attorney’s office. The robbery was followed by another at the Santander Bank on Grand Avenue in New Haven on Aug. 12, 2019, the office said.
Two days after he made off with $2,000 from the bank, Moore was arrested on related state charges, according to the U.S. attorney’s office. He was in possession of a loaded .38-caliber revolver and a .25-caliber semioautomatic handgun at the time, the office said.
Moore was apprehended after a brief car chase in Bridgeport’s East End, according to local police. The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle crashed into a wall at the intersection of Hollister Avenue and Orange Street, police said, injuring both Moore and a second suspect also occupying the car. Both were transported to the hospital for treatment, police said.
Moore has a criminal history that includes prior convictions for criminal weapon possession and possession of narcotics, according to the U.S. attorney’s office. People convicted of felony offenses are prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce, the office said.
Moore has been detained since his Aug. 14, 2019, arrest, according to the U.S. attorney’s office. He pleaded guilty to Hobbs Act robbery, bank robbery, brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a robbery and unlawful gun possession by a felon on March 30, 2022, the office said.
Moore was sentenced to 118 months — around 9.8 years — in prison followed by five years of supervised release by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in Hartford, according to the U.S. attorney’s office. The 118 months is in addition to the approximately 43 months Moore has served in prison since his 2019 arrest, the U.S. attorney’s office said.
State charges against Moore are pending, the office said.
