A 1960s Villa on Italy’s Amalfi Coast Lists for €26 Million

A villa along Italy’s Amalfi Coast that’s hosted some of the country’s cultural and political luminaries has hit the market for €26 million (US$28.3 million).

Located in Positano, the terraced property offers a private sunbathing area and exclusive access to the Mediterranean Sea, according to the listing with Lionard Luxury Real Estate. Between the main residence, a guest house and a separate apartment, there’s more than 8,600 square feet of interior space, plus approximately 7,500 square feet of usable outdoor areas.

That’s plenty of room to host a party.

“Over the years, it has housed intellectuals, artists and illustrious figures from the Italian cultural and political scene, such as Alberto Moravia, Roberto Olivetti, Sergio Vacchi and Inge Feltrinelli just to name a few, helping to make the villa’s receptions unforgettable and famous, especially in the 1970s and ’80s,” Lionard said in a news release on Tuesday.

The compound dates to 1963, with original features including wrought-iron detailing, brass taps and hand-painted majolica tiled floors, the listing said. The villa offers rooms in colors like saffron and seafoam green that are “rich in details” and “the result of a careful renovation and research project,” the listing said.

On the main floor, there’s a living room with French doors that lead to a terrace with a lounge area overlooking the water. There’s also a chef’s kitchen, a dining room and a study with a fireplace and a desk next to a window overlooking the bay of Positano.

The primary bedroom is on the upper level and includes a marble bathroom and a private terrace with a pergola. The floor has two other bedroom suites and views of the water. A two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment is on the lower level and also boasts a kitchen, a terrace and a separate entrance.

The two-floor guest house has a kitchen, a bedroom, a bathroom and a living room overlooking one of the home’s many terraces, all of which offer cold-water misting systems.

Outside, steps lead to the sea, surrounded by bougainvillea, shade plants and lemon trees. Among the plantings, there’s a grill and a covered fitness area. The sunbathing area offers two terraces with deckchairs, umbrellas and a bar, along with intercom access to the villa. Guests and residents can also reach the water and there’s private mooring for boats.
