Birmingham is full of dynamic, creative professionals, and two of them have poured their talents into building can’t-miss community events.

City Walk Art Market and The Modern Green Book market happen on the third and final Saturdays of the month. Keep reading for all the details.

1. Celebrate local art, music + food

2. Support local Black-owned small businesses

Theo Edwards-Butler is the founder of The Modern Green Book. This Birmingham-based national organization exists to support, lift and celebrate Black-owned businesses and the communities they serve while grounding in the rich history of the original Negro Motorist Green Book.

They keep a database of Black-owned online and brick-and-mortar businesses across the country that people can support.

After hosting successful Culture & Community Fests, organizers decided it was time to offer a monthly market at City Walk Bham.

“The markets are essentially the same as the festival, just on a micro-scale. Each one features Black makers, DJs (Spex Da Great is coming in May), crafters, food and beverage vendors. The whole goal is to create a more equitable small business economy, where all the businesses can thrive”

Theo Edwards-Butler, Founder, The Modern Green Book

  • What: Monthly Black-owned market featuring 30-50 vendors
    • Note: There are some food vendors + you can grab a bite to eat at Eugene’s Hot Chicken or other shops at Uptown.
  • When: Last Saturday of every month, 4-8PM, March-October | No market in November | December market is a holiday market on the 1st weekend
  • Where: Yellow Block City Walk Social—at Blue Block Roller Rink on occasion.
