Saving Chupie GN – Harper Alley debuts a supernatural island adventure inspired by Puerto Rican culture and lore. After the destruction wrought by Hurricane Maria, Violeta Rubio’s Abuelita’s beloved restaurant La Casita needs help reopening. Violeta’s whole family travels to Puerto Rico to help. She is determined to contribute, but the rest of the family thinks they can do it without her. With nothing to do, she meets the best friend duo Diego and Lorena, who need help capturing the rumored chupacabra. She unexpectedly runs into the beast, only to discover he isn’t as monstrous as everyone thinks. But there are international smugglers and monster hunters who are also after Chupie. Violeta must find a way to keep Chupie hidden and convince her new friends he isn’t anything to be scared of, but saving Chupie may mean sacrificing everything else in the process. With bright, vibrant art and the cutest chupacabra ever, middle school readers will love this new title.
