Police Arrest Juvenile in Connection With Vandalism/Graffiti in Town

WATERTOWN — Several complaints have been made in 2022 and 2023 to the Watertown Police Department, mainly from the Park and Recreation Department, of offensive graffiti.

Watertown police received a report from a citizen of a unique symbol of graffiti in numerous locations in town including a playground, traffic control signs and Veterans’ Park in early February 2023.

Police investigated the unique symbol and were able to obtain probable cause to identify a juvenile suspect. Investigators arrested the juvenile suspect in July by a warrant issued out of juvenile court with an August court date.

No other information can be released on that particular arrest based on the age of the juvenile.

There are many other unique graffiti symbols aka “tags” that police are still trying to identify. Officers continue to conduct patrol checks of the parks on a daily basis.

The Watertown Park & Recreaction Department scours the grafitti upon discovery.

The grafitti does not appear to be targeting the Sandy Hook incident as it is found in other areas in the park and town.

Anyone with information on vandalism/graffiti in Watertown is asked to call the Watertown Police at 860-945-5200 or Crimestoppers at 860-945-9940 for an anonymous cash reward with information leading to an arrest. Information can also be emailed to [email protected].
