Richard Thomas and Yaegel T. Welch in the touring production of To Kill a Mockingbird
Julieta CervantesDirector Aaron Sorkin, known for his political dramas and fast-paced dialogue, has tackled the classic novel To Kill A Mockingbird and translated it for the stage. In Sorkin’s Mockingbird, playing through April 30 at the Hobby Center, Atticus Finch is portrayed as flawed and naïve when it comes to racism in his community. His defendant, Tom, played by Yaegel T. Welch, is less of a passive victim. Though the story takes place in Depression-era Alabama, its themes are as relevant as ever, Welch says. “It actually shows us where we need to go, and how far we’ve come.” Check dates and times at Hobby Center’s site.
