FIFA to Drop Limited NFTs Offering Access to 2026 World Cup

FIFA has announced a new non-fungible token (NFT) drop that will give collectors a rare opportunity to secure tickets to the 2026 World Cup final in North America.

  • 100 ultra-rare NFTs will offer the chance to win tickets to the final match.
  • A total of 900 NFTs are being minted on the Polygon blockchain.

“For the first drop, 100 digital collectibles will be made available … and will feature the rarest collectibles that offer the chance to secure 2026 FIFA World Cup final tickets,” the statement said.

The international governing body for football revealed plans to release digital collectibles that could allow holders to attend one of the most coveted matches in all of sports.

FIFA to move to Polygon

While details remain scarce, FIFA confirmed that future releases of FIFA collectibles will move to Polygon from Alogrand. While the crypto market struggles to regain its meteoric highs of 2021, major brands still view digital collectibles as instrumental fan engagement tools.

NFT trading volume has rebounded from 2022 lows as crypto asset prices stabilize. However, collections like CryptoPunks and Bored Ape Yacht Club still garner only a fraction of the sales they once commanded.

FIFA remains committed to exploring Web3 initiatives despite the downturn. The team is also bringing on Modex, a blockchain solutions provider, to manage its NFT ventures.

In a statement, Modex CEO Francesco Abbate expressed support for FIFA’s goal of enhancing fan engagement through digital collectibles, stating, “Digital collectibles increase the ways in which fans can interact with their favorite players, teams, and the game they love, and we’re honored to support FIFA on realizing this goal.”

The latest batch of NFTs will be released later this week, according to the statement.
