“This is a positive vote for us tonight. It’s the first step and our rebuild,” school board secretary Scott Henry said.

After reaching out to the Elizabeth Forward community for recommendations, Superintendent Keith Konyk said the school board approved hiring McClean Architects to do a facilities study on the high school.

“That will be a rebuilding of the auditorium to start and then give us options for the future as well,” Konyk said.

McClean Architects will also look at potential upgrades to the high school’s heating, electric, and plumping.

“This is a good thing now we’re starting the process of looking at what it’s going to look like for the future,” school board president Thomas Sharkey said.

Konyk said the study will cost $28,000.

“We will work through the insurance company and try to have that paid for by the insurance company because it wouldn’t be something that would be required if we hadn’t had to fire,” Konyk said.

Konyk said the district has been in touch with state Rep. Andrew Kuzma and state Sen. Jim Brewster since the fire started to look at what help the state might be able to provide.

Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 reached out to both Kuzma and Brewster following Tuesday’s school board meeting.

Konyk said the study could take up to two months to complete.
