Discover Julie Evans’ Latest Works at Boca Raton Museum of Art

A vibrant exhibition at the Boca Raton Museum of Art showcases new works by Julie Evans.

Anna D. Smith Fine Art and Real Estate Broker is pleased to announce that the Boca Raton Museum of Art is hosting “Julie Evans: Eating Sunshine,” a vibrant new exhibition showcasing the latest works by celebrated New York artist Julie Evans. On view from June 12 to October 20, 2024, this exhibition marks the first time Evans’ new ceramic sculptures will be displayed alongside her paintings in a museum setting.

Julie Evans, known for her extensive travels and work in India, draws significant inspiration from Indian Miniature Painting. Her deep connection to this art form is evident in the meticulous detail and intricate designs present in her work. Evans’ fascination with natural systems and their elegance is reflected in the title of the exhibition, “Eating Sunshine,” symbolizing the essential life energy that plants and organisms derive from the Sun.

The timing of “Eating Sunshine” coincides with a peak period of solar activity, when the Sun’s magnetic poles prepare to reverse, creating spectacular solar flares and coronal mass ejections. This cosmic event underscores the thematic underpinnings of Evans’ work, which celebrates the extraordinary power, logic, and beauty of nature.

Curated by Kathleen Goncharov, Senior Curator of the Museum, the exhibition features 48 works, including 24 ceramic sculptures paired with 24 paintings, works on paper, and assemblages on mylar. Both her two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces radiate rich, saturated colors and organic forms, inviting viewers to engage slowly and observe the intricate details.

Julie Evans, a pioneer of the Chelsea art scene in the early 1990s, has transformed her practice over the decades. Now based in Hudson, New York, her studio has become part of the region’s thriving art community. Evans’ works are included in over 300 public and private collections, such as the Rubin Museum of Art and the United States Art in Embassies Program.

Kathleen Goncharov, who has known Evans for over 30 years, praises her ability to find inspiration in the natural world’s structures and patterns. Evans’ work, both expansive and abstract, bursts with life and intricate detail, offering a unique blend of macro and micro perspectives.
