Bye-Bye, Mets! 5 Awesome Options for Max Scherzer’s Texas Mansion

With the New York Mets sliding all the way out of the playoff picture, team owner Steve Cohen opted for decisive moves at the MLB trade deadline.

And give the oft-maligned Mets some kudos for not staying the course and falling prey to the sunk-cost fallacy. As in the world of real estate, it’s best not to focus on the money lost on a depreciating asset and simply move forward.

Mets management made the tough call to trade away some of their best players. They also sent oodles of cash to the teams taking on some massive contracts.

In the case of ace pitcher Max Scherzer, that meant sending the Texas Rangers $35 million to cover the costs of a deal Scherzer signed in November 2021.

As for the well-traveled righty, Scherzer’s proven that he has an eye for fine real estate. In 2015, he purchased a $5.2 million home in McLean, VA, after signing on with the Washington Nationals. He then oversaw a fully modern makeover of the home, transforming the place perched right over the Potomac River into a true showpiece.

As he prepared to depart the Nats, Scherzer put the luxury home near DC on the market for $15 million in October 2020. It took a year to sell, but Scherzer’s smart makeover paid off—he sold the place for his asking price in November 2021.

Prior to the Virginia sale, Scherzer picked up an off-season mansion in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. He purchased a luxe five-bedroom mansion in Jupiter, FL, in spring 2020 for $9.75 million. Located right on the water, the luxe residence in a guard-gated community is equipped with an outdoor kitchen as well as a dock that can accommodate a 70-foot boat.

So the Rangers’ newest star knows he’ll head to Florida once the season is over, but where should he settle down while he’s in the Lone Star State?

We’ve picked out a few options for Scherzer to consider in his Texas house hunt. With a contract set to pay him $43 million in 2024, he can easily afford the priciest places in the Dallas metro area.

These five options are brimming with fabulous amenities like spacious gyms, courts, and fields; bounteous beds and baths; pools; immaculate grounds; and all the space a thriving sports family could desire. They’re also within commuting distance of Globe Life Field, the air-conditioned stadium where Scherzer will be pitching.

Turtle Creek casa: Built in 2018, this contemporary interpretation of Spanish Revival architecture has a bit of Montecito to it. It could easily impress any sports-loving family thanks to its indoor sport court with room to take batting practice. There’s also a private gym, media room, billiard room, and soundproof video/game room.

With six bedrooms spread across 14,652 square feet of living space, everyone in the family can have their own bedroom and en suite bath. The massive kitchen is equipped with double islands and a French cooking range, and towering windows throughout the residence illuminate the pristine spaces.

Out back, the family can enjoy the infinity pool, spa, pool house, outdoor living room with a concealed kitchen, fireplace, and lovely lower terrace overlooking Turtle Creek, one of Dallas’s most prized neighborhoods.

Waterfront wonder: There’s something about this home that reminds us of the modern mansion with Potomac River views that Scherzer sold in 2021. Perhaps it’s the fact that this Hill Country modern estate is also set on a body of water that feeds into a pond on the grassy and wooded grounds.

Part of the exclusive Vaquero Club community, the 7,222-square-foot residence overlooks the private golf course and is less than a half-hour drive from Globe Life Field.

Designed for indoor-outdoor living, the home was custom-built with sumptuous natural materials, including glass, wood, and rare stone.

The spacious primary suite can accommodate the entire family. It comes with a private elevator, a living area with a vaulted ceiling, a fireplace, a wet bar, dual closets, a gym, and an office.

There’s also a veranda, a pool, and a guesthouse.

Masterfully modern: Given their previous purchases and sales, the Scherzers appreciate modern/contemporary architecture. This stylish contemporary home possesses all the signature virtues, including clean lines, generous open spaces, soaring ceilings, and rich wood finishes. Originally built in 1985, the residence has been remodeled twice.

It’s also a more affordable four-bedroom option, not that money will be the deciding factor. But they’re sure to be intrigued by upscale features like a living room enhanced by mahogany and a Danby marble fireplace, and a luxurious library lined with cashmere carpeting and smoke mirrors.

The whole family can get plenty of recreation in the gym and the heated saltwater pool. The gorgeous grounds are marked by green lawns, majestic oaks, and natural landscaping. Of course, there’s a state-of-the-art security system, which includes a safe room to put any celebrity at ease.

Toniest trophy:
If Scherzer wants to make a real statement in Texas, this is the place. It’s packed with opulent amenities, including a plush home theater, an indoor-outdoor gym, two primary suites, a two-story sunroom, a dining room with a wine wall, a cigar balcony, and an impressive 10-car garage.

The listing states that the six-bedroom home will be completed next year, which could mean there might be a finishing touch or two for the star to add. The family will certainly enjoy the 12,503 square feet of exquisitely appointed living space.

The 2.2-acre lot is landscaped to perfection. It includes an elevated infinity pool with a waterfall, a tennis court, and views of Bachman Creek. It’s the perfect marriage of old world luxury and modern elegance, but will it appeal to a certified ace?
