📰 Here are the top stories in Grand Junction today:

  1. A 25-year-old Grand Junction man is cooling his heels at the Mesa County Detention Facility. Officers connected with him on Wednesday during a traffic stop on the I-70 close to Debeque. At the time, officers found “over 100,000 fentanyl pills and approximately 75 pounds of methamphetamine.” (City of Grand Junction)
  2. Grand Junction High School is not getting a health center. However, another Grand Junction school, Central High School, has a health center. The Mesa County Valley School District 51 Board of Education voted 3-2 to prevent its opening. Board members said they were worried about parental rights and “a lawsuit against the health center’s proposed operator.” Students lobbied for the center, explaining how it helped them at Central. (The Colorado Sun)
  3. The Maverick Innovation Center at Colorado Mesa University has done it again. It now holds a patent for a graffiti removal product from porous surfaces, which has historically been the most difficult to get rid of. Typically, you’d have to sand the area or paint over it. However, something as simple as a starch solution is proving to be effective — and environmentally friendly. (Colorado Mesa University)
  4. Earlier this week, Mesa View Elementary School celebrated its 40th anniversary. A mural was dedicated, a time capsule opened, alumni came out for tea, and visitors enjoyed a spring festival. Receiving the Governor’s Distinguished Improvement Award was the icing on the cake. (NBC)
  5. Before taking mom out for Mother’s Day, do you know how your favorite restaurant is doing during inspections? Reportedly, one of the most common infractions is the absence of a “food protection manager.” Other bones of contention involved improper temperatures and hygiene. (KJCT)

  • “Are you ready for festival season? May is a great time to visit GJ, especially for the biking. Check out two awesome events happening this month via 5280 Magazine.” (Visit Grand Junction)
  • “A $102,971.98 agreement for Phase 1 of the MESA-Q-6.8 Bridge Rehabilitation Project was approved by the Board of County Commissioners at the administrative public hearing on May 9.” (Mesa County Colorado)
  • Country Jam on June 22 is a three-day country music festival featuring 20+ bands on two stages, surrounded by Colorado’s awe-inspiring red rock landscape. Country Jam Colorado was founded in 1992 after the promoters successfully produced a country music festival by the same name in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Country Jam is one of the longest-running festivals in the country!” (RV Share)
  • “Happy Father’s Day! Celebrate this special holiday with your dad here at Junction West Grand Junction RV Park! We will be having doughnuts for dads on Sunday, June 18!” (Junction West Grand Junction RV Park)
